Australian Pork Limited, the national representative body for Australian pork producers, is offering Undergraduate Training Awards for interested students to participate in work experience with producers and service providers in the Australian pork industry (such as feed suppliers, vets, AI companies etc).
The Award provides financial support to allow students to undertake formal work experience during their vacation breaks. Such placements expose undergraduates to the opportunities the industry has to offer, exposure which is not often provided during their course work.
The Undergraduate Training Award provides students with a weekly living allowance of $350 for a maximum of ten weeks, combined with any financial support from the host organisation. Placement is not limited to the state in which the student is studying. APL will consider contributing to travel costs if students are required to travel significant distances to get to their placement.
The process involves interested students contacting potential hosts and negotiating a work experience position. APL has a list of interested host organisations in each state. Students then apply for APL's Undergraduate Training Award which is accompanied by endorsement from their university and details of the host piggery/organisation.
Successful applicants will be required to sign an agreement with APL which covers their conditions of payment, and submit a report outlining the value of their placement within one month of completion.
APL promotes the Undergraduate Training Awards in universities prior to the October submission deadline.
If you're an undergraduate and would like to participate in the program, or would like to host an undergraduate work experience student, contact Pork Industry Training (WA)'s Training Officer .
